For math, we are going to use Sweet-tart conversation hearts (let’s be real, the original kind is disgusting) for the following…
- Estimation: They will outline their hands and estimate how many candy hearts will it take to fill up their palm
- Averages: Record data as a small group about the candy colors and the messages on them, then find the averages of that information
I’m looking for some writing activities appropriate for 4th graders. I was thinking about having every kid decorate a Valentine’s Day card - for themselves - and then having every kid pass it around the room and each person has to write something positive on it. My class definitely needs some positivity.
Any ideas? What are you guys doing?

I use the sweet hearts to have the students write a love letter. They have to use 5-6 phrases to make a letter and share with the class.

I am thinking about doing a lesson on figurative language or poetry and gear it towards valentines.
